Velvéa

A Mississauga gift basket atelier launched from a standing start: the store, the checkout, the search work, the Business Profile and the launch videos, done as one job by one team.

01The problem

What wasn't working

Velvéa opened in 2026 with no domain history, no reviews and no walk-in shop, into a GTA category where the established basket retailers have had city pages ranking for years. A gift is also a strange purchase to sell online. The person paying is not the person receiving, they are usually working against a date, and they have four questions before they will commit: will it arrive in time, what exactly is inside, what does delivery to that address cost, and will the recipient see the price. Most basket sites answer the first with a banner, the second with a photograph and the third at the last step of checkout. On top of that, corporate buyers ordering thirty baskets for thirty addresses need a completely different path from someone sending one to their mother, and Ontario means the whole thing has to work in French as well.

02The build

What we built

A full online store rather than a catalogue with a contact form. There is a Stripe checkout with provincial tax, customer accounts with order history, discount codes and gift cards, and an admin panel where the owner runs products, orders, reviews, corporate enquiries and gift guides without a developer. The 18 baskets can be browsed by occasion, by recipient or by category, and every product page answers the four questions in order. What's inside is a written list, item by item, so the Rosé Radiance basket says eleven things rather than showing one picture. The price is in Canadian dollars. The delivery block states next-day local delivery, tracked shipping across Ontario, and that the fee is priced from the postal code before payment. The gift card is written on the product page and printed with no prices on the slip. Corporate gifting has its own programme page: volume pricing from 10 baskets, delivery to every address on the list, one point of contact, and a quote reply within one business day. Everything exists in English and French. Around the site we set up the Google Business Profile and Search Console, and made the Instagram videos that announced the launch.

03The visibility

How people find it

A new gift business is found three ways: somebody searching for a basket for an occasion, somebody searching for delivery to a specific city by tomorrow, and somebody asking an assistant where to send a gift hamper in Mississauga. A new domain has no authority to lean on for any of them, so the site had to win on structure instead. Every way a person shops for a gift is its own page, every city delivered to is its own page, and every fact an assistant would need to recommend the shop is written down where it can be read.

  • A page for every way people shop for a gift

Fifteen occasions, eight recipients and seven categories each have their own address and their own title, instead of being filters on one catalogue page. Someone searching for a sympathy basket or a gift for new parents lands on a page about exactly that. This is the category-page problem that sinks most online stores, solved before launch rather than after.

  • A delivery page for each of eleven cities

Mississauga, Toronto, Brampton, Oakville, Milton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Burlington, Georgetown and Bolton each state whether delivery there is same-day, next-day or courier, with the fee and the cutoff. Each page carries service and FAQ markup naming the city. Gift delivery searches are city searches, and a shop that names its cities one by one is answering them.

  • Contents and prices as text, with product markup

Every basket lists what is in it, item by item, and carries product and offer markup with the price in Canadian dollars. An assistant asked for a self-care hamper under two hundred dollars can only recommend a basket whose contents and price it can read, and a photograph gives it neither.

  • An llms.txt written for the assistants

A plain summary for AI crawlers of what Velvéa is, where it is, that it is online only with studio pickup by appointment, that it sells no alcohol, and which cities get which delivery, with links to the pages that say more. Checkout, accounts and the admin panel are kept out of the crawl entirely, so nothing private competes with the pages that should rank.

  • Both languages indexed, not translated on the fly

The French store lives at its own addresses under /fr, with its own pages in the sitemap, so it can be found by someone searching in French rather than only switched to by someone who arrived in English.

  • Business Profile and Search Console from launch day

The Google Business Profile was set up with the same name, address, phone number and hours as the site footer, so the map listing and the website agree from the first day. Search Console was verified at launch, so how Google picked up a brand-new domain could be watched rather than guessed at.
